Prudence Walker ¹

  General Notes:

This particular Prudence Walker, the daughter of Charles and Elenor Walker, was born in Ireland before her family immigrated to the United States. The family settled in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, and in that region on August 15, 1781, Prudence married a man named William Walker who was no relation to the family. The marriage was at the Centre ("First") Presbyterian Church near Carlisle, Pennsylvania, John Linn officiating.

Husband William Walker was born between 1750 and 1760 probably in Cumberland, Pennsylvania. In 1791 in Hawkins County, North Carolina (which later became Knox County, Tennessee), William purchased 200 acres of land from Robert King. It is on Lyons Creek in Eastern Knox County, and some descendants in the family of William and Prudence Walker still live in the area of Lyons Creek today.

William died about March, 1798 and is buried in the family cemetery on their Walker family farm.

Prudence remarried a man named James Morrow after William died.

Prudence and William Walker had eight children:

* Jane Walker, born March 17, 1782 in Cumberland County, Pennseylvania, and died August 29, 1830 in Knox County, Tennessee. Jane married a man named Boyd in about 1802.
* Ellinor Walker, born November 17, 1783 in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, and died November 30, 1880 in Knox County, Tennessee. Ellinor never married.
* James Walker, born April 1, 1786 in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, and died January 10, 1858 in Knox County, Tenneessee. James married Elizabeth Kennedy October 7, 1806 in Knox County, Tennessee, and later Susan Brady on October 6, 1853 in Knox County, Tennessee.
* William Walker II, born May 28, 1788 in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania and died August 20, 1847 in Knox County, Tennessee. William married Elizabeth Oglesby in about 1830, and a second woman named Elizabeth in about 1834.
* George Walker, born May 20, 1790 in Hawkins County, North Carolina (now Knox County, Tennessee), died between 1831 - 1840 in Knox County, Tennessee. George married Eleanor P. (unknown) about 1806.
* Bartley Vance Walker, born June 19, 1792 in Knox County, Tennessee, died about July, 1865 in Knox County, Tennessee. Bartley married Margaret Ann Douglas December 8, 1829 in Knox County, Tennessee.
* Prudence Walker, born August 9, 1794 in Knox County, Tennessee. Prudence married Leroy Carpenter December 8, 1829 in Knox County, Tennessee.
* Charles Walker, born April 28, 1797, died March 12, 1875. Charles never married.

Prudence remarried James Morrow in about 1800 after William died, and they had three children:

* Armstrong Morrow, born February 1, 1801
* Charles Morrow
* Prudence Walker Morrow (not content to only have one daughter Prudence, Prudence produced a second one!)

Prudence died 03/07/1847 and is buried in the Walker cemetery on the family farm.
