JAMES L. STROTHER
James Lewis Strother, 87, of The Plains died Thursday at Fauquier Hospital.
A graveside service will be conducted Friday at noon at Ivy Hill Cemetery in Upperville by the Rev. Rob Banse.
Mr. Strother was born Jan. 5, 1920, near Delaplane, son of the late William Smith and Louie Delaplane Strother. He was a graduate of Marshall High School, attended Fork Union Military Academy and the University of Maryland. He was an Army veteran of World War II, receiving the Bronze Star. He had been a herdsman for Cobbler Mountain Farms and purchased Texas Farm, which he operated as a cattle farm. He was the husband of the late Katherine Ashby Leas Strother.
Surviving are three daughters, Katherine Lewis "Butter" Strother of The Plains, Mary Strother "Dee" Mulligan of Woodstock and Louie Delaplane Dobson of Middleburg; a sister, Louie Delaplane Strother "Teenie" Leas of Delaplane; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Marshall Volunteer Fire Department or The Plains Volunteer Fire Department.
Arrangements are being handled by the Royston Funeral Home in Middleburg.
