(I) Lieut. William Butler, first child of Major General Richard Butler, was born in 1783. The records are unfortunately very meager but he must have entered the United States Navy at an early age. He had risen, by good service, to the rank of Lieutenant, when he died early in the war of 1812-14.

(II) Mary, second child of General Richard Butler, was born 10th of April, 1785, at Carlisle, Pa. She was married to Colonel Isaac Meason, Jr., in 1805, in Pittsburgh, Pa. The Colonel was born the 3rd of January 1779, and died in February, 1836. His widow survived him until November 30th, 1878. She was an educated lady of the old school. A devoted member of the Episcopal Church, noted for her charity and admired for the dignity of her character and her rich endowments of head and heart. The children were:

(III) James Butler, born November, 1787, died 11th of January, 1788. Buried in Carlisle Pa.

(IV.) Captain James Richard Butler, fourth child of General Richard and Mary Smith Butler, was born 10th of January, 1789, at Carlisle, Pa., and was educated there. He volunteered for service at the outbreak of the war of 1812…He was married 10th of February, 1814, to Anna, daughter of General John Wilkins. She died the 31st of July, 1870.

American Revolutionary War Veteran-one of the famous "fighting Butlers" of Pennsylvania.
Killed at Arthur St. Clair's Defeat in Ohio territory. It is alleged that he was buried separately from the other dead in a coffin; that the burial site was lost; and that the coffin was accidentally found years later in the Town of Ft Recovery Ohio and that it was reburied in Soldiers Monument, Ft Recovery Ohio
