HUDSON - Van Eugene Ransburg, 88, of Hudson, passed away suddenly Friday, Nov. 9, 2012 at his home. He was born in Salem Center on April 5, 1924 to Reuel and Evelyn (Shufelt) Ransburg.

Mr. Ransburg was the former owner of Ransburg Hardware in Hudson for 20 years, and also a former manager of Metal & Plastics, Hudson. He also worked at Montgomery Ward in Fort Wayne, Harris Float Boats in Ashley and Wakefield Woodworking in Waterloo.

He was a graduate of Salem Center High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Ransburg was a member of the St. John's United Church of Christ and former member of the Hudson Volunteer Fire Department.

He married Helen M. Stomm on May 5, 1945.

Preceding him in death were a son, Martin Allen Ransburg, and a sister, Linda Bassett.

Surviving are: his wife, Helen L. Ransburg, Hudson; a daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Keith Wetoskey of Waterloo; a granddaughter and spouse, Shawn and Rocky Foltz of Auburn; and a great granddaughter, Anna Foltz.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at St. John's United Church of Christ, Hudson, with Pastor Kim Nusbaum officiating. Burial will be in Circle Cemetery, Hudson.

Friends may call at Johnson Funeral Home, Hudson, Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, from 3 to 7 p.m. and at the church one hour prior to services. Memorials are to the church or Hudson Volunteer Fire Department.
