General Notes: Alpaida (also Alpaïde, Alpaide, Alphaida, Alpoïde, Elphide, Elfide, Chalpaida; ca. 654 \endash ca. 714) was a Frankish noblewoman who hailed from the Liège area.[1][2] She became the mistress of Pippin of Herstal (635 or 640 \endash 16 December 714) and mother to two sons by him, Charles Martel (Charles the Hammer) (d. 22 October 741) and Childebrand I (678\endash 751).[3] Alpaida married Pepin of Herstal II, Duke of Brabant, son of Ansegisel and Begga "Saint Begga", before 714. (Pepin of Herstal II, Duke of Brabant was born about 635 in Heristal, Liege, Belgium and died on 16 Nov 714 in Meuse, Liege, Walloon, Belgium.) |
