  • Born: 1 May 1639, Auslikon, Pfäffikon, Zürich, Switzerland
  • Marriage (1): Rev. Hans Herr in Pennsylvania, USA
  • Died: 9 Jun 1730, Willow Street, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, USA at age 91

  General Notes:

Elizabeth was born in Auslikon, Pfaffikon, Canton Zurich, Switzerland and followed the Mennonite beliefs.

During 1660 in Aargau, Baden, Switzerland (Germany Today) Elizabeth Mylin Kendig married the Mennonite Hans Herr who in America became known as the Bishop Hans Herr.

They named their children: Abraham, Isaac, Margaretha, Maria, John, Anna, Samuel, Emanuel and Henry Herr. Some of these were born in America after the family immigrated in 1710.

Her husband Clad in the coarsest homespun clothes, his feet shod with wood, arrived in the far - off land of America after a prophecy told him he and his People would be prosperous and happy, however poor when arriving in this new land.

There is much speculation and genelogy records that suggest that Margaretha Sieber "Maria" Herr (b.1663, d.1725) and her sister Maria Herr (b.1673, d.1725) are in fact the same person. This is supported by the fact that currently they are both recorded to have died on 1 Dec 1725 in Strasburg, Lancaster Co., PA.

The birth dates of Margaretha's children by John Weber between 1683 & 1695 and those of her sister Maria between 1702 & 1704 in the same place with the father being Benedictus Brackbill (b.1665, d.1720) would have made this a possibility if Margaretha divorced John Weber and remarried in 1701 to Benedictus Brackbill.

However I have found nothing in the history of any of their offspring to suggest this happened. Combined with the fairly well documented fact that John Weber lived until 1724 and divorce was rare in the Mennonite community I continue to believe Margaretha and Maria Herr were two seperate individuals.
