Richard F. "Dick" Schlueter, 83, of Crothersville, passed away at 4:00 AM on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at Hampton Oaks Health campus in Scottsburg.

Dick was the proprietor of the former Schlueter's Dry Goods Store in Crothersville from 1951-1989, worked at the former U.S. Shoe Corp as a heel cutter, and his first job was at Morgan's Packing Company where he made $.13 an hour. He was big on perfect attendance at all his jobs.

On June 24, 1951 he married Dorothy L. "Dottie" (Garriott) who preceded him in death on Oct. 22, 2000.

He was a very active member of Immanuel United Church of Christ serving as the treasurer and enjoyed singing in the choir, served on the start up committee of the Crothersville's Red, White & Blue Festival committee, and a charter member of the Crothersville Lions Club, served on the former Jackson County Crippled Children Society Board and on the Schneck Hospital Board in the 1970's, former Odd Fellows Lodge member, worked for the Jackson County Republican party, was a member of the Crothersville VFW post # 1089. He cared about his community by giving of his time and devoting his life for community service.

Dick served in the United States Army during the Korean War where he was honorably discharged after serving one enlistment.

Born June 27, 1927 in Mariemont, Ohio, he was the son of Harry R. and Lennie (Horst) Schlueter.

Survivors include a daughter Dara (John) Burnett of Crothersville, four grandchildren, Heather (Nicholas) McIntosh of Scottsburg, Bobby (Tabitha) Burnett of Crothersville, Rachelle Burnett of Crothersville, Brandon Burnett of Crothersville, four great grandchildren, Isaiah Burnett & Nikaila Burnett both of Scottsburg, Allie Burnett & Emma Burnett both of Crothersville.

His parents, one sister, Betty Schlueter, and a son Douglas (December 1, 2007) preceded him in death.

Rev. Bud Walther will conduct funeral services at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 with burial to follow at Crothersville Cemetery with a military graveside rites conducted by the Crothersville VFW post #1083.

Friends may visit the family on Monday, December 6, 2010 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Adams Funeral Home in Crothersville and on Tuesday after 10:00 AM at Adams Funeral Home in Crothersville.
