General Notes: Joan of England (October 1165 \endash 4 September 1199) was a queen consort of Sicily and countess consort of Toulouse. She was the seventh child of Henry II, King of England and Eleanor, Duchess of Aquitaine. From her birth, she was destined to make a political and royal marriage. She married William II of Sicily and later Raymond VI, Count of Toulouse, two very important and powerful figures in the political landscape of Medieval Europe. 1 Joan married William II, King of Sicily in Feb 1177. (William II, King of Sicily was born in Dec 1153 in Palermo, Kingdom of Sicily and died on 11 Nov 1189 in Palermo, Kingdom of Sicily.) Joan next married Raymond VI, Count of Toulouse, son of Raymond V, Count of Toulouse and Constance Capet of France, Countess of Toulouse, in Oct 1196. (Raymond VI, Count of Toulouse was born on 27 Oct 1156 in Saint-Gilles, Gard and died on 1 Aug 1222.) |
