General Notes: Henry III (28 October 1016 or 1017 - 5 October 1056), called the Black or the Pious, was Holy Roman Emperor from 1046 until his death in 1056. A member of the Salian Dynasty, he was the eldest son of Emperor Conrad II of Germany and Gisela of Swabia.[1][2] Henry married Gunhilda of Denmark, Queen Consort of Germany, daughter of Cnut "the Great" Sweynsson King of England (1016-1035), King of Denmark (1018-1035), King of Norway (1028-1035) and Emma of Normandy, Queen of England. (Gunhilda of Denmark, Queen Consort of Germany was born about 1020 and died on 18 Jul 1038.) Henry next married Agnes of Poitou and Aquitaine Empress consort of the Holy Roman Empire, daughter of William V, Duke of Aquitaine and Agnes of Burgundy Duchess of Aquitaine and Countess of Anjou, in 1043 in Germany. (Agnes of Poitou and Aquitaine Empress consort of the Holy Roman Empire was born about 1025 and died on 14 Dec 1077.) |
