John Atwood likely is not the father of Christopher Wood. John lived in Sanderstead, Surrey, England and the Wood family lived in Halifax, Yorkshire area--over 242 miles. Wakefield Court Rolls listed a John Del Wode in 1274. Richard del Wode of Rastrik was elected Grave in 1275. In 1331 Richard del Wode forester of Sowerby was charged with a theft of a mare.

John Maestri of San Anselmo, California and/or Deborah Wood received documents from the West Yorkshire Arhives verifying the deWode family lived in the Halifax/Sowerby area in the 13th century. However, no definitive link with source(s) was made between Christopher and his unknown Wood father. Here is the genealogy as listed, all born and lived in the Sowerby area:
