Married to Mary Ann Myers, Father to Rebecca Jane (1852), John H (1853), James H (1855), Josiah Lemuel (1857), and Christina S Farver Washler (1859)

Moved to Spencerville, DeKalb Co, IN, and operated a shoe shop until 1867. During retirement, he became an accomplished wood carver.

While visiting his Nephew Isaac's Farm (son of his brother Samuel) in NE Stueben Co, he was kicked in the gut by a horse as he was unharnessing it on Sept 7, 1893. Not thinking it was serious he soon became worse and died on Sept. 11 with his body brought back home for burial
