MARY: b. Jan. 13, 1755, at Roxb.; m. Mch. 29, 1781, Cornelius Holgate, of Roxb., who was b. Jan. 27, 1758. He d. April 14, 1829, near to Wilkesbarre, Pa., where he was buried until 1876, when his son Griffith had his body removed to the Lev. Cem. and buried beside that of his wife, who d. Aug. 20, 1843, at Leverington, Philad.
Mrs. H. was a woman of strong intellect and culture. Her writings were regarded with great favor by her friends. Her granddaughter, Mrs. Abby J. H. Hanford, still preserves the original script of a poem entitled "Death and Eternity," which was written by Mary at the age of 70 years. referred to Mrs. and Mr. Holgate in my circular of Feb. 22, 1893, as having been passed in "The Levering Family" of 1858, without a date relating to them, and as having "left numerous issue;" none being named. In this work may be traced more than 400 consanguineous descendants, while some, believed to reside in Illinois, are not included. They are the posterity of Mary (Bartolette) and John Coleman, and failed to respond.
