General Notes: What was then the Bermudian Brethren Meeting House is now part of the Upper Conewago Congregation and not the Lower Bermudian Lutheran and Reformed (Union) congregation. The Bermudian congregation was organized in 1758 with Conrad Beissel guiding them. It was the offspring of the Ephrata community 7th day observance was their rule; they worshipped on Saturday as did Ephrata. Bermudian was 15 miles from York town and 102 miles from Philadelphia. Forty families made up this congregation with 58 baptized persons including Frederick Reuter (Righter), his wife and daughter; Daniel Fahnstick and wife, Dietrich Fahnstick and wife, John Cook (Cough?) and wife and son, Peter Bender and wife and George Neiss and wife. 2 George married Mary Leas, daughter of Leonard Leas and Salome Worley, before 1782. (Mary Leas was born in 1754, died in 1768 and was buried in Lower Bermudian Lutheran Church Cemetery, Latimore, Adams County, Pennsylvania, USA.) |
