According to "Histories of Clermont County Villages," Newtonsville was named for a large family named Newton who lived east of the village along present S. R. 131. The town was laid out by Cornelius Washburn Jr. and Stephen Whitaker in March of 1838. Newtonsville is about five miles west of the Clermont/Brown County line.

Elizah married Christena Kern, daughter of Gabriel Kern and Sarah Custer. (Christena Kern was born in 1800 and died about 1834 in Clermont County, Ohio, USA.). The cause of her death was giving birth to her fourth son.
