When Abner was young he went to Panlet, VT. and after his marriage he lived in Wallingford for many years then Starksbaro VT. and then Danby, Vermont. He was a carpenter and builder by occupation.

Descendants of Abner "Abba" Croff Generation No. 1 1. ABNER "ABBA"5 CROFF (JOHN4, WILLIAM3, WILLIAM2, JOHN1)1 was born 10 Aug 1787 in Ware Hampshire Co. Massachusetts, and died 04 May 1857 in Danby Rutland Co. Vermont. He married RHONDA EDDY. She was born in Wallingford, and died 04 May 1857 in Danby, Rutland Co. Vermont. Notes for GEORGE CROFF: George was in a soldier in the late rebellion, and rose from a private to the position of Major. Major George E. Croff, son of Abner Croff, enlisted fro three months in Co. K. 1st Vt. Regiment. After the expiration of his term of service, he again enlisted, Feb. 12, 1862, in Co. D 7th Vt. Regiment, and occupied the position of Lieutenant, until March 1, 1863, when he was promoted Captain. He finally rose to the position of Major, which rank he held for several months previous to his discharge. He remained with the regiment until it was discharged, and returned home, as strong and resolute as when he entered the service. He came home, after his long service, with a glorious record, and an untarnished career, to be again an active, useful citizen. His health however, in the course of a year or so, began to fail him, and he fell a victim to consumption, in the spring of 1867, aged 28.He was a good soldier and a brave officer. Notes for ISRAEL CROFF: Israel T. Croff enlisted for three years in Co. H. 10th Regt. Aug. 8, 1862. He died of disease Jan. 6, 1863, aged 23. He was not of a very robust constitution, and when he entered the service, but few supposed he could endure the fatigue and sufferings incident to a soldier's life. But not withstanding this his patriotic spirit prompted him to lend assistance duty to his imperiled country, and he is said to have performed his duty faithfully, as long as he was able. His remains were brought home for interment. 3. JOHN F6 CROFF (ABNER "ABBA"5, JOHN4, WILLIAM3, WILLIAM2, JOHN1) He married HARRIETT BOSTWICK. Notes for JOHN F CROFF: He lived at the Corners, where he kept tavern. He removed to Fort Edward, N.Y., and served as Capt. in the late War. Resided at Malone, N.Y. Notes for EZRA CROFF: Ezra enlisted fro nine months, in Co B. 14th VT. regt. Aug. 27, 1862. He served his term out and on returning home was attacked with the typhoid fever, and died soon after. His wife died of consumption, while he was in the service. He left three orphan children, who received his pension. Croff. . Abner is very likely buried in Danby or in South Wallingford, where members of his family are buried, but there is no stone for him in either town. 2 3
