Harry says:
My history won't make headlines but here it is! I was born July 3, 1906 on the Linsey farm about 1 1/2 miles from Alton, Indiana in a two room log house with a shed kitchen built on the side. I went to school at Rapid Branch near Alton for three or four years and then to Archibald School five miles north of Leavenworth after my folks moved from Alton. I then went to Leavenworth High School and attended college at Oakland City for two years. I taught school in a one room school for six years, farmed a few years and then took up mechanical work.
Some of the experiences of my life were a little bit crazy. Once my father, who was a Granger Twist tobacco chewer sent me to the house to get him a twist of tobacco while he worked on the old wheat binder. The temperature in late June was in the 90's. The leaves on that twist looked so nice and golden. I had to try chewing some of it. All went fine for a while but presently I didn't feel so good and went to the shade where I got pretty sick so that was all the tobacco I ever wanted.
My first experience with automobiles was when I was about nine years old. My father was sick. He put me on Old Barney, our old, gentle horse and sent me to the drugstore at Alton, about 1 1/2 miles from home. I tied the horse to the hitching rack at the store and went in to get the medicine. I came out and heard a roaring sound, looked up the dirt street and saw a cloud of dust. I was scared so bad I ran to the horse who was scared also. It was only a 1914 Model T Ford.
Harry married Pauline Gladys Vernon on 7 May 1927 in Marengo, Indiana.
