Death Due to WWI Injury
Bill Williams remembers his Uncle Walter suffered an illness due to mustard gas from WWI that eventually caused his death. He died at age 51 from arteriosclerotic heart disease and had suffered a massive infarction of the left ventricle a year before his death. Walters death certificate states that he was currently married to Grace Thomas, who was his step-mother, Grace Birdene Trask. She and his adoptive father, Robert Samuel J. Thomas were separated, but probably not divorced. She was only 9 years older than Walter. This additional information was provided by Eilene Thomas, daughter-in-law of Robley Evans Thomas. Jr. 1
