A Brief Summary of Bill's Life in His Own Words
"We lived in Napa, where I was born, until moving to Los Angeles when I was about 16 months old. My dad went to work as a capenter. In L.A. he took the street car to work, carrying his tools with him. With only an eighth grade education, he became quite successful as a commercial building contractor. He built several schools in the area, including Huntington Park and Canoga Park High Schools and Magnolia St Elementary. In 1926, we moved from Glendale to Montrose, where dad built 17 commercial buildings. I went to Montrose Elementary, Wilson Junior High in Glendale, then to La Crecenta Junior High before ending up at Glendale High School. I met Barbara in my first year there and thats where my life began.
After marrying in December of 1940, we moved into a one room apartment on Harvard St. in Glendale. I was working at Lockheed and Barbara was working for the phone company.
As I write this, I am looking back over my life and, of course, I see all the mistakes I made. But I did try to do the right things. My fondest memories are the fun things we all did together. I didn't make much money, but we did have a lot of time together. I figure my money in the bank is all the great memories that I can sit and draw on as time quickly passes. Another great thing is, I am still depositing into this account (of memories). We, Mom and I, are very lucky to have such a fine family of kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. We certainly appreciate how kind and thoughtful you all are." 1
