General Notes: Fielding Lewis (July 7, 1725 \endash December 7, 1781) was a Colonel during the American Revolutionary War and the brother-in-law of George Washington. A successful merchant in Fredericksburg, he had a plantation, which later became known as Kenmore. Notable for its Georgian mansion, it was designated as a National Historic Landmark in the twentieth century. Fielding married Catharine Washington, daughter of John Washington and Catharine Whiting, on 18 Oct 1746. (Catharine Washington died on 19 Feb 1750.) Fielding next married Betty Washington, daughter of Capt. Augustine Washington and Mary Ball, on 7 May 1750. (Betty Washington was born on 20 Jun 1733 in Westmoreland County, Virginia, USA, died on 31 Mar 1797 in Culpeper County, Virginia, USA and was buried in Western View Plantation in Culpeper County, Virginia.) |
