Benjamin H. Boone, aged eighty-two years, one of the oldest natives and highly esteemed residents of the county, died at his home in Fairland this morning at four-thirty o'clock, death resulting from uremic poisoning. The end did not come unexpectedly to the relatives and many firneds of the old gentleman, as he had been suffering terribly for the past several months, his death being expected at most any moment during the last week.
Deceased was the last surviving Mexican war veteran, of the county, Capt. H. M. Endsley, who died only a few days ago, being next to the last. Mr. Boone joined the army when only a mere lad and fought bravely and gallantly during the entire conflict, receiving an honorable discharge at the end. He was a great friend of the late Capt. Endsley and it was indeed a pleasure to any one to see the two old comrades get together and talk over the times of their boyhood days.
Nearly all of Mr. Boone's life had been spent in Moral township and he had lived there except for a few years, when he resided in Illinois, all his life until he moved to Fairland fifteen years ago, where he has since resided with his family. Mr. Boone was a devoted Christian, being a member of the Baptist church at Fairland. He had been a member of the Baptist church for more thatn thirty-five years, being a member of the East Union Baptist church in Moral township until a few years ago he had his membership changed to Fairland. He was a man loved and esteemed by all his acquaintances and his death will bring sadness and sorrow to many homes.
Deceased is survived by his aged wife and eight children, the latter being Mrs. Louise Eiler and Mrs. Anzil Gaddis, of Shelbyville, Illinois; Mrs. W. B. Mount, of Newark, Ohio; Dr. B. H. Boone, of Acton; Mrs. Charles Wood, of Fountaintown; W. T. and M. C. Boone, of Greenfield, and Mrs. Wesley Monroe, of Waldron. On account of not receiving word from one of his daughters, the day for the funeral has not yet been chosen, but will be either Saturday or Sunday. The Rev. Buchanan, of Indianapolis, will officiate, assisted by Rev. W. T. Markland. Interment in charge of Ralph J. Edwards.

FUNERAL NOTICE

The funeral services for the late Benjamin H. Boone, who died at his home in Fairland, yesterday morning, will be held at the Baptist church in Fairland Sunday morning at ten-thirty o'clock, the Rev. Buchanan, of Indianapolis, officiating, assisted by the Rev. W. T. Markland, of this city. The interment will be made in the Fairland cemetery in charge of Ralph J. Edwards.

OBITUARY

B. H. Boone was born April 10, 1830, near Shelbyville, Ind. He departed this life March 6, 1913, being eighty- two years, ten months and twenty-six days old. He was an ordained deacon in the Missionary Baptist church at East Union, to which he was ardently devoted, and later he transferred his membership to the Fairland Baptist church. He was near to, if not the last, of the Mexican soldiers of Shelby county. He was a good father and husband, indulgent - almost too much so - tender, and affectionate. He loved to see his family have and enjoy the best he could afford. His home was one of welcome to all. A most beautiful tribute was - "He could hold no malice to even those whom he felt had unjustly treated him." He was always glad and even watchful to do them some kind act. The ruling motive of his life was - to love everyone. Methinks when his life is weighed in the balance before the throne of our Great Judge, he will be received with open arms and hear the benediction. "Enter thou into thy rest; thou hast been faithful unto the end and hath done what you could. Everlasting peace and an eternal home is thine inheritance." In his dealings he was just and liberal. The deep, unfathomable love and reverence left in the hearts of his family to him builds for him a monument which time nor man can erase. He leaves behind a heart- broken wife and family, together with a host of friends to mourn his loss. The wife needs especial mention. She has proven a most devoted, loyal, indulgent companion, ministering unto him many years in his invalidism in a pathetic sacrifice to hold him yet a little while a part of her life. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary September 10, 1910. Long years they trod the path of life together and now to that dear wife and mother the way will be lonley and sad. Yet God has said: "I will not leave thee comfortless; I will come to you. " At his request Rev. Buchanan of Indianapolis, with whom he had been intimately associated for thirty-five years, delivered the sermon. Interment in Fairland cemetery at 10:30 Sunday morning, March 9. He much loved these little gems which formed the text for the sermon: Psalms, 23rd chapter; John, 14th chapter, 1 st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th verses, "For tho from out our bourne of time and place the flood may bear me far, I hope to see my pilot, face to face when I have crossed the bar." ²

Benjamin married Mary Ellen Paullin on 4 Sep 1847 in Shelby County, Indiana, USA. (Mary Ellen Paullin was born about 1830 and died about 1858.)

Benjamin next married Elizabeth Jane Harrell, daughter of Byrum Harrell and Sallie Hubbel, on 18 Sep 1859. (Elizabeth Jane Harrell was born in 1843, died in 1931 in Greenfield, Hancock County, Indiana, USA and was buried in Fairland Cemetery, Fairland, , Indiana.)
