Harold Robert Skelly, 86, or rural Waterloo, passed away on Monday, March 17, 2014, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.
Mr. Skelly was born on April 25, 1927, in Smithfield Township to Ray and Rebah (Reed) Skelly. He was a lifetime Fairfield Township farmer and a school bus driver in DeKalb County for 51 years.
He was an active member and deacon of the Pleasant Chapel Church of the Brethren.
Mr. Skelly was a 1945 graduate of Ashley High School.
Harold enjoyed telling stories, going to antique farm tractor shows, riding his golf cart around his farm and making maple syrup with his family.
On January 1, 1949, he married Laurine Pairan who survives along with six children, Janet (Dean) Ramsey of Westerville, Ohio, Amos (Marge) Skelly of Corunna, Marvin (Julie) Skelly of Ashley, Martha (Roger) Tubbs of Hudson, Darwin Skelly of Waterloo and Linda Skelly of Hamilton. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Jeremy Skelly of Aurora, Illinois, Jaclyn (Tom) Considine of Lake Zurich, Illinois, Jacob Skelly of Knox, James Ramsey of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Rachel (Cortney) Harrison of Monrovia, Brent Tubbs of Hudson, Adrianne Thomas of Cortez, Colorado, Lisa Tubbs of Columbus, Ohio and Tammy Tubbs of Fort Wayne; three great-grandchildren, Lucas Skelly, Tyson Harrison and Caffrey Considine; a daughter-in-law, Carol Skelly of Fremont; and a son-in-law, Paul (Cheryl) Thomas of Angola.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James Skelly; a daughter, Marlene Thomas; three brothers, Earl Skelly, Orla Skelly and his twin Gerald Skelly; and three sisters, Doris Skelly, Iris Thomas and Gladys Skelly.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Pleasant Chapel Church of the Brethren, 1993 C.R. 8, Ashley, with visitation from 10-11 a.m. Friday prior to the service at the church. Pastor Valarie Kline will officiate. Burial will be in Fairfield Cemetery in rural Corunna.
Visitation also will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 875 S. Wayne St., Waterloo.
