Grades: Private 1st Class 26 April 1918, Private 13 June 1918, Private 1st Class 20 July 1918. Discharged at Ellington Field, Texas on 3 May 1919 as a Private 1st Class. Killed in an airplane crash at Bolling Field, Washington, D.C. on 13 April 1927 and buried at Fargo, North Dakota.

Military Lodge Rite Accorded Victim of Plane Crash
Full Military honors were accorded Captain Homer I. Sands, Fargo who was killed in an airplane crash at Washington, D.C., Wednesday, at funeral services which were held at 2 p.m. today in Masonic Temple. The services were in charge of Dr. H.L. Walster, Worshipful Master of Shiloh Lodge No. 1 A.F.&A.M., Rev. Ernest C. Parish of First Methodist Church and other officers of the lodge. 3
