Harold "Hal" W. Leas 94 formerly of West Lawn died Tuesday at 1:10 P.M. at the Phoebe Berks Health Care Center, Wernersville. He was the widower of Lois J. (Shontz) Leas, who died May 10, 1996. They had shared a loving marriage of fifty years.
Harold was born in Reading, PA on March 4, 1921. He was the son of the late Stanley S. and Orene (Boyer) Leas.
Surviving is a daughter; Becky M. wife of C. Andrew Krepps of Lansdale. A daughter in law, Nancy Leas of Albemarle, NC. A son, Stanley J. Leas, died September 19, 2008.
"Hal" had five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He had two sisters that predeceased him in death; Nelda C. Leas and Dorothy M. Huey.
Mr. Leas was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Reading.
Harold retired March 31, 1985 with forty-seven years of service from Metropolitan Edison Company, Reading. He was last manager of maintenance and testing.
"Hal" graduated from Reading High in the class of 1938. He received a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from Lafayette College in the class of 1964.
Harold served his county in the United States Army during World War II. Also Harold served in the Reserve Corps during the Korean Conflict.
As an electrical engineer, "Hal", was a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers and a member of the Institute of Electrical & Electronic Engineers.
Mr. Leas was a member of Chandler Lodge #227, Free & Accepted Masons. He, also, was a member of the Valley of Reading, A.A.S.R.
Funeral services from St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 449 North Ninth Street, Reading, PA 19601 on Saturday at 10:00 A.M. with Reverend William B. Fryer officiating. Interment in Berks County Memorial Gardens with full military honors.
Family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 9:15 until time of service.
