Caroline, wife of John C. St. Clair was born in Stark County, Ohio, February 14, 1830, and died at her home near Waterloo, Ind., July 4th, 1888, aged 58 years, 3 months and 28 days.
The deceased came to DeKalb county, Ind., in 1848, where in her eighteenth year she was united in marriage to Mr. St. Clair, February 18, 1852. To this union there was given six children, three sons and three daughters, five of whom survive their mother, one daughter having preceded her. She united with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ohio, in her 15th year, and has been a faithful member of church from that date to her death, having joined the Reformed Church at this place, and later the Presbyterian Church, of which society she was a member in good standing when death called her home. For over a year she has been a great sufferer, and her afflictions seemed but to strengthen her faith, and with christian fortitude waited for the relief from suffering. She was a noble christian and a faithful mother. Her obsequies were held in the Reformed Church, July 6th, and attended by a very large concourse of people. Rev. H. A. Sawyers, of the Presbyterian Church, preached the sermon, a very able discourse, and her remains were placed to rest in the family lot in the Waterloo cemetery."
Caroline married John C. St. Clair, son of Samuel St. Clair and Kline, on 18 Feb 1852. (John C. St. Clair was born on 3 Mar 1823 in Pennsylvania, USA, died on 9 Mar 1898 1 and was buried in Waterloo Cemetery, Waterloo, Dekalb County, Indiana, USA.)
