Note: Arrived in Philadelphia, PA at "the 7th hour on September 2, 1743, aboard the Loyal Judith, Capt. James Cowey, Master." The ship sailed from Rotterdam and was "last from Cowes, England." He and an unnamed brother settled in Maryland, but Simon and his family moved to PA about 1769, settling in the German settlement in eastern PA, Goshenhoppen. Simon and three sons, Phillip, Simon, and Christian served in the American Revolution, in the Northampton County Rangers.
From Land Warrant at Harrisburg State Archives:
Whereas Simon Ruffner of the County of Bucks hath requested that we would grant him to take up twenty five Acres of Land more or less adjoining the Indian River and the Seven Hundred Acres Tract above the forks of the Delaware near Hochyondochy Creek in the said County of Bucks for which Simon Ruffner agrees to pay to our use at the rate of fifteen pounds ten shillings, current Money of this Province, for One Hundred Acres and the yearly Quit-rent of One Half-penny Sterling for every acre thereof .These are therefore to authorize and require you to survey, or cause to be surveyed, unto the said Simon Ruffner at the Place aforesaid, according to the Method of Townships appointed, the said Quantity of Twenty five Acres, if not already surveyed or appropriated, and make Return thereof into the Secretary's Office, in order for further Confirmation, for which this shall be your sufficient Warrant: Which Survey, in Case the said Simon Ruffner does not fulfil the above Agreement, within Six Months from the Date hereof, shall be valid, otherwise void. G I V E N under my Hand, and Seal of the Land-Office, by Virtue of certain Powers from the said Proprietaries, at Philadelphia, this 28th Day of September, Anno Domini, One Thousand Seven Hundred and fifty one.
