Susan Whitley,wife of Abraham Halstead of Northowrowan in the parish of
Yorkshire, wa baptised in the parish church at that place 1 February
1572/73. She was the daughter of John Whitley or Whythlay , a clothier of
the township of Warley in Halifax Parish, by his wife Agnes Mawde. This
John whitley was baptised in the parish church at Halifax 19 June 1540/41
and was resident of Ovenden and then Warley. His will, dated 16 Januryu
1612/13 was proved 3 August 1614, and in incorrectly quoted in
"Transactions of the Halifax antiquarian Society, 1934, p. 155+. Their
children were Susann, baptised 16 June 1566, die d1 Feb 1571/72; Johannes
(John) bapised 24 June 1568, married in October or November of 1597 to
Sybil Lister, duagher ot Thomas of Ovenden; Grace, baptised 8 Oct.
1570, married abut 1591 to Oliver Whitton,; susan (as above); Matthew,
baptised 2 oct. 1571, died 1 april 1587; Joseph baptized 12 ctber 1578;
Mychaell, baptised 23 april 1581, died after 1613, married and had issue;
and Marie, who married about 1605, Edwrd Farnhill.
John whitley who married Agnes Mawde was the son of John whitley, Whytlay
or Qwytlay of Wheatley near Ovenden, Halifax Parish, Yorkshire; he was
born about 1510 and was buried from the parish church at Halifax 3 Dec
1561. His will dated 29 November, 1561. He married Agnes, married name
unknown, who was buried 15 March 1554/5. Their children were Gener; John
married Agnes Maude; and Elizabeth.
John Whitley of Wheatley (about 1510-1561) , the foregoing , was son in
turn of Johannes Qwytlay of Whytlay ov Ovenden, Halifax. The later was
born about 1475 and was buried 1 Feb. 1539/40. HIs widow Johanna was
buried 9 Jan 150/41. The will of John Whytlay was dated 28 Feb 1538/39.
and was proved 1 March 1539/40. His ancestry is
Agnes Maude wife of John Whitley, was baptized in the parish churchof
Halifax, 13 March 1542, as daughter of James Mawde of Earoyd (?Eastroyd:
a locality in the town of Warley)
She was the daughter of James Mawde of that place, born about 1510 by a
wife whose name is not found. The children of James Mawde were Johannes
buried 8 April 1541; Agnes (as given) ;
Gilbert, baptised 3 Jan 1544.;
Johanna, baptised 27 Jan 1547/48;
Elizabeth baptised 21 Feb 1553/54;
Richard buried 6 april 1562 and
James baptized 13 Oct 1558.
James Mawde was the son of Richard Mawde of Warley, born about 1485 will
dated 22 Dec 1540, proved 15 March 1540/41; by his wife Margaret. He was
a clothmaker. The children mentioned in the will were John, Agnes,
Elizabeth, Margaret, Jennet and James. The wife Margaret and the son
James were to be executors."

"Susan Whitley, wife of Abraham Halstead of Northowram in the parish of

children of James Mawde were Johannes, buried 8 April, 1541; Agnes (as

James Mawde was the son of Richard Mawde of Warley, born about 1485, will
dated 22 December, 1540, proved 15 March, 1540/1; by his wife Margaret.
He was a clothmaker. The children mentioned in the will were John,

John married Agnes Hartley, daughter of John Hartley and Unknown, on 24 May 1562 in Halifax, Yorkshire, England. (Agnes Hartley was born about 1542 in Earoyd, Halifax, Yorkshire, England and was christened in Halifax, Yorkshire, England.)
