Dora A. Houser, 97, of Auburn died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013, at Miller's Merry Manor in Garrett.

Mrs. Houser was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Altarstar United Methodist Church in rural DeKalb County and through the years had been an active participant in the church.

She was also a volunteer for more than 15 years for the Retired Senior and Volunteer Program (RSVP) in Auburn and was a former member of the DeKalb County Chorus Group.

She was born Sept. 15, 1915, in Allen County to John "William" and Rosalind E. (Kistler) Surfus. She married Wilson W. "Mike" Houser on June 1, 1935, in Allen County. He died March 24, 1990.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Marvin W. and Deloris Houser of Auburn and John E. and Vicky Houser of La Porte; a daughter, Janice E. Leas of Auburn; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, a stepgreat-grandson; seven great-great-grandchildren; and twostep-great-great-granddaughters.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sharon Kay Houser; grandson, Todd Houser; five brothers, Leonard Surfus, Walter Surfus, Jesse Surfus, Ernest Surfus and Ralph Surfus; and two sisters, Mildred Hefty Stephenson and Grace Surfus Bender.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 S. Center St., Auburn, with Pastor Curtis Brincefield officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Creek Cemetery in rural Garrett.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the Altarstar United Methodist Church or Youth for Christ.
