  General Notes:

ABNER F. LEAS. Mr. Leas was born in Fountain county, Indiana, October 6th, 1838. His father, George LEAS, was born in Pennsylvania, and came to Ohio when a small child. The family were among the first settlers in Warren county, Ohio. George Leas married, about 1830, Lydia CRANE (whose father was a Virginian, and settled in Miami county, Ohio, at an early period), and soon afterwards moved to Fountain county, Indiana.

The subject of this sketch was raised and received his education in that part of that State. He lived at home till twenty-one. In 1861 he came to this county and settled on 160 acres of land in section 9, township 19, range 10, which his father had entered a few years previously, and where he has since lived. He went to work at improving the land in an energetic manner. He now has a farm of 248 acres, on which he has erected substantial buildings, a view of which appears elsewhere.

March 13th, 1867, he married Lydia E., daughter of Abraham PATTON, who was a native of Tennessee, and settled in Vermilion county, Illinois, at an early date, where Mrs. Leas was born. By this marriage there have been four children. Mr. Leas has been an intelligent, industrious and enterprising farmer. In politics he is a Republican. He believes in surrounding his family with comforts, and giving his children an opportunity to enjoy the advantages of life. He has been a member of the Christian Church since 1853, and has been an active supporter of the interests of that denomination. He aided in organizing Prairie Hope church, north of his residence in Stanton township, of which he is still it member.
