Ethel Alice Morton was born July 31, 1893 on the family farm on Cass Irish Ridge Road, North of Dresden, in Muskingum County, Ohio. She was the daughter of Samuel Upton and Minnie Howell Morton. She graduated from Zanesville High School, Muskingum County, Ohio in 1913.

Ethel married William Hayden Leas on December 29, 1915 in Coshocton County during Christmas break. The Leases were former teachers. Hayden taught at Brush College in Tunnel Hill and Ethel taught in the Mohawk Schools. They honeymooned in Akron, Ohio.

Hayden and Ethel established their home in the Akron area about 1926. They had three children: Paul Edmond Leas, Helen Maxine Leas Thoricht and Robert Morton Leas. At the time of her death Ethel had six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren

Ethel was employed by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for 15 years. She retired in 1960. Ethel was an avid crafter and enjoyed her backyard garden. She was a member of the Redeemer United Methodist Church, and the Grandmother's Club of North Hill. 4


Ethel married William Hayden Leas, son of Finley Leas and Martha McCurdy, on 29 Dec 1915 in Coshocton County, Ohio, USA.1 (William Hayden Leas was born on 9 Jul 1894 in Tunnel Hill, Coshocton County, Ohio, USA, died on 13 Feb 1982 in Akron, Summit County, Ohio, USA 4 and was buried in Rose Hill Burial Park, Fairlawn, Summit County, Ohio, USA 4.)
