WABASH WRECK KILLS TWO MONTPELIER FIREMEN ________
Engineer And Fireman of Fast Train Caught Under Locomotive When The Train Is Ditched.
Two trainmen were killed, another fatally injured, and passengers shaken and bruised in a Wabash passenger wreck near Dillon, Ind., west of Montpelier Wednesday morning. The dead are Edward T. Norman, Engineer, and Harry Yoder, Fireman, both of Montpelier, who were caught by the overturning locomotive of a fast eastbound train No. 12, running from Chicago to Detroit, when it struck a defective rail. Frank Freer, Buffalo, baggageman, probably fatally injured, and one passenger, an unknown man, were taken to North Liberty, a short distance east of Dillon. A Wabash wreck crew and physicians from Montpelier were rushed to the scene. The wreck occurred shortly before 3. The locomotive and tender and the baggage car rolled down an embankment. Passengers in the coaches, including occupants of two Pullman sleepers, were severely shaken and bruised. Fireman Yoder was pinioned under the overturned locomotive and his body was not extricated until late in the forenoon. He was killed instantly. Engineer Norman was thrown clear of the wreckage, was picked up unconscious and placed in one of the coaches. He died shortly afterward. Freer was caught under piles of baggage, severely bruised and internally hurt. 4
