HISTORY OF JOHN PATTON,

your Grand Father, written by him at Watterville, Marshall Co., Kansas. Father Scotch, mother German. John Patton Son of Thomas and Rebecca Patton, born April 30th. 1811 Frederic Co., Middleton Valley, Maryland. My father died when I was 4 years old; I was raised by my grandfather, George M. Bittle, married Susan Gaver June 21. 1832. Susan Gaver was the daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth Gaver; she was born December 24, 1810, in Frederick Co., Middleton Co., Maryland. Her mother was English and Father German. My Father was called Irish but properly was Scotch; I think he was born in America, if not he was quite young when he came here. He served part time in the Revolutionary War, offered his service in the War of 1812, but was rejected. He had Two families; His first family was pretty well grown before he married his second wife. I am next to the youngest of the Second family. My mother's maiden name was Linton -- English folks lived on the Eastern shore of Maryland. Mother was a widow with one Son when she married my Father. Her first man's name was Summers. My Father has been dead 58 years, my mother 21 years. My first marriage was in Frederic Co., Maryland, by a Rev. Jacob Leatherman. Birth of my first family: Henry Clay Patton. born Frederic Co MD Oct 5. 1833 Sarah Anne Ester Patton. born Frederic Co MD Jan 5 1835 Elias Franklin Patton. Marion Co. Ind. Dec. 9 1837 Charles Luther Patton. Marion Co. Ind. Oct 13 1840 Margaret Elizabeth Patton. Indianapolis Oct 8. 1843 George Henry Milford Patton. Indianapolis Ind. Feb 7. 1849 Julia Patton Googins. Indianapolis March 21 1847 Children of John Patton and Susan Gaver. John Patton my (Nellie's) mother's Father married Sarah Catherine Scherer, my Father's (Sister & Second wife) (Mar. 21. 1850) Ceremony was performed by Rev. A.H. Scherer, who afterwards married my mother at the age of 16 years, so you see, Father's sister was my mother's "Step-mother" (Nellie Scherer's mother.) Charles Luther Patton was a Soldier of the Civil War; he was born in the southern part of Marion Co., Ind. Oct 13. 1840; died at Cicero, Ind, having a widow, twin daughters (Ivah & Vivah) and an older daughter. (March 12. 1970 Ivah Patton Winkel had four children: 1) Naomi Winkel McKnight 3) Paul Patton Winkel (deceased) 4) Charles Luther Winkel 2) Clyde Robert Winkel (deceased) I hope you can understand this. I jumbled it up some. Children of John Patton and Sarah Scherer: James Myers Patton, deceased. John Ambrose Wells Patton, deceased. Uriah Theopolis Patton, deceased. Mary Rachel Patton, born Nov 13. 1854, Clinton Co. Ind., married Dan Googins, brother of Julia Googins's husband, now deceased. Mary lives at Winona, Minn; and a Minnie Lingenfelter, living on a farm near Fremont, Minn; these are your cousins. Nancy Catherine Victoria Patton, born Sept 30. 1856, at Millersburg, Hamilton Co. Ind, married Mark Duncan; lives on a farm near Utica, Minn. Her present address is (Kit Duncan Anoko Minn.)
