He married Wilhelmina Belle ("Mina") Norman, daughter of John Norman and Rachel Meek, on October 16, 1888, in Hudson, Steuben County, Indiana; they were married until his death. The couple had two children, a son and a daughter, namely:

AVRIEL NORMAN HAFER (1890-1967) and
FERN RACHEL (HAFER) RUEHART (897-1951)
