Clyde Cooper Family
Clyde Franklin Cooper was born August 11, 1882, near Hopeville in Union County, Iowa, and died November 28, 1972. He was the son of Phillip and Cora (leas) Cooper. On June 17, 1903, Clyde married Addie Ethel Foland.
Addie was born February 24, 188, in Decatur County and died February 15, 1931. She was the daughter of John Valentine and Menerva (Hopkins) Foland.
Clyde and Addie were married by the Justice of the Peace, Marion Brammer, northeast of Grand River. They went west in a covered wagon and homesteaded in Greeley County, Kansas, where they lived in a dug-out and sod house.
Three children were born there: Orpha Irene Scadden on August 25, 1905; Opha Laveta Edwards on September 8, 1907 and Clell Foland on May 13, 1911.
They returned to Iowa in 1912 and bought a farm northeast of Grand River where two more children were born: Cloris Vivian Taylor on August 26, 1913, and Doris Arlene Lamb on October 20, 1916.
Clyde and Addie then returned to Western Kansas in 1917 and lived in the sod house on the old homestead for one year. They returned to Iowa and lived in and around Grand River the remainder of their lives. Clyde was fur buyer for many years. He operated a produce and feed store for several years in Grand River.
