MILITARY: He was drafted in the Civil War 23 Aug 1863 in Reading Twp., Adams, PA for a term of 3 years and told to report on 17 Sep 1863. In Chambersburg, PA on 17 Sep 1863 he filed a form 31 certifying that the had paid a commutlation to exempt him from the present draft. The fee was $300.
