Catharine Nigh was born October 24, 1817 in Fairfield County, Ohio. She was the daughter of Peter Nigh (May 17, 1787-February 17, 1844) who was born in Hagerstown, Maryland and Anna Maria "Mary" Smith (November 12, 1787- October 30, 1877) of Fairfield County, Ohio. Her family was the third generation of Nigh/Nyes in the United States being of German descent and speaking German. They came to Fairfield County, Ohio in 1811.

Following the death of her father, Peter Nigh in 1844, her mother Anna Marie 'Mary' and some of Catherine's siblings moved to Cumberland County, Illinois. Her mother died October 30, 1877 about three miles west of Casey, Illinois near Vevay Park and is buried in the Long Point Cemetery northeast of Vevay Park. Catharine and her husband, Adam Delp and their first four children emmigrated to Illinois between 1845 and 1848. Catharine's sister Harriet was also in Illinois and married to Harmon Reese. Harriet is buried in the Garrett Cemetery northwest of Vevay Park.

She was devout member of the Valley Church and helped in many ways in the community. Catharine, called Aunt Katy attended to many women during childbirth and was always on call to help with sickness in the area. She died on May 5,1880 at the age of 86 years, 11 months, 23 days. She is buried next to her husband in the Greenup Cemetery.


Catherine married Adam Delp. (Adam Delp was born on 24 Jun 1815 in Germany, died on 11 Mar 1866 in Greenup, Cumberland County, Illinois, USA and was buried in Greenup Cemetery, Greenup, Cumberland County, Illinois, USA.)
