General Notes:
The son of Henry & Mary Leas, in 1860 he was a fence maker presumably living in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, although he is not found in that census. He stood 5' 5" tall and had sandy hair and blue eyes. He married Frances Wills and fathered John C. (b. 07/20/64), Elmer E. (b. @1867), Albert H. (b. 12/11/68), Ann M. (b. 1870), George Washington (b. @1871), Barbara Ellen (b. 02/22/74), James M. (b. 03/12/76), Cora May (b. 01/23/79 - married Edward Franklin Dietz), and Daniel W. (b. 04/29/81).
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted and mustered into federal service at Lancaster March 7, 1865, as a private with Co. H, 195th Pennsylvania Infantry, but deserted from camp in Washington DC to date November 23, 1865. He is on the rolls as "Leese."
In 1870, he lived in West Donegal Township, Lancaster County, and in 1880, in Hellam Township, York County.
