Frederick Joseph Leas was born on December 8th, 1936, to Frank and Josephine Leas in Omaha Nebraska.
Preceded in death by his son, Richard J. Leas, his parents, sisters, Veronica Galas, Theresa Brazda, and Ann Carpenter.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Charlotte (Paltani) Leas, children: LuAnn Kruz, Bullhead, AZ, Michael (Mariana) Los Osos, CA., Joseph Leas, Castle Rock, CO. James Leas (Marianne) Cheyenne, WY., Edward Leas (Melinda) Helena, MT. Tedd Leas, Omaha, NE.
Eight Grandchildren, Calvin, Kelsey, Zachary, Joshua, Ariana, Chanel, Jodie, and Daniel. Two Great Grandchildren, Kyza and Maddox. Two sisters, Fran Wieneke and Josephine Tscheschke. Many nieces and nephews, in-laws, and life-long friends.
Fred was with Swoboda Music Center in Omaha from 1957 until 1994 when he and Charlotte moved to Las Vegas. At Swoboda's he was teaching Music lessons and doing instrument repair on Accordions and Strings. He was also President of the Mid-America Music Association and a member for many years.
Was the leader of the Encores Combo for nearly 35 years.
He loved remodeling houses, with our sons and good friend Paul Novak
Chairperson for the Boy Scout troop 88 for over 20 years at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Omaha, NE. Five of our sons achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Supported Big Red, the Nebraska Football team. Belonged to the Las Vegans for Nebraska Club.
After moving to Las Vegas, has been doing Accordion repairs for many of the Casino Strolling Musicians and other hobbyists.
He worked for Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada was in charge of many of their buildings 15+ years, and then Shade Tree Women and Children's Shelter.
He Loved hiking with our family and mentored many young people on hiking the Las Vegas sites.
Fred was a volunteer for Toys4kids.org making wooden cars for the past 10 to 12 years. He really enjoyed handing out the cars to little ones. He will be remembered for all of the smiles from the little ones.
Fred loved his family and his Church Community. He will be missed by all whose lives he touched.
