She married Samuel Smock in Shelby Co., KY, November 18, 1797. Samuel was born in Berkeley Co., VA October 7, 1776. Samuel died July 5, 1833 in Madison, IN, at 56 years of age. Samuel V. Smock was born Berkeley County, Va., Oct 7, 1776. He married Rachel Ryker November 8, 1797 in Shelby County, Ky. Rachel Ryker had been married first to Henry Hoagland,who was killed by Indians. She then married William Robins, who was also killed by Indians. Both husbands left her with small children.

The family of Samuel V. Smock and Rachel Ryker Smock moved from Shelby Co. Ky in 1805, to an area about three miles southwest of Hanover, In. The area became known as Smock's Big Springs. There was only one family of whites living nearer than 14 miles, but were lots of Indians. The white family was Mason Watt's. Samuel V. Smock was the first Justice of the Peace and first commissioned Postmaster within the present bounds ofJefferson County. He was a Lieutenant Colonel of Militia in the war of 1812. He was a farmer and lawyer, and one of the founders of the town of Hanover, and of Hanover College. He was a delegate to Corydon, Indiana in 1816 for the writing of the Constitution of the State of Indiana. He died on July 5, 1833, in Madison, Indiana.

Rachel Ryker Smock was born June 19, 1773, in Tappan, New York and died Oct 28, 1861 in Wappelo County, Iowa. From Articles Titled "Reminiscences of JOHN SMOCK, of Hanover Township, and appearing in The Madison Courier from Jun 28, 1874 through Jul 3, 1874. John Smock was the son of Samuel Smock and Rachel Ryker.
