Gene Leas
WELLINGTON - Gene Leas, 73, of Wellington, died May 31, 2001, at Sumner Regional Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Quentin Bennett and Pastors Marvin Ewertt and Zane Brooks will officiate. Burial will be in Oxford Cemetery.
Friends may call at Day Funeral Home from 1 to 9 p.m. today and Sunday. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 Sunday.
A memorial has been established with the First United Methodist Church, 202 W. Harvey, Wellington, KS 67152. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Leas was born Sept. 25, 1927, in Winfield, to Evaline (Spittler) and Floyd W. Leas.
On Jan. 22, 1956, he married Virginia Schifferdecker in Wichita.
Leas was a retired tool engineer with Plessey-Midwest, now BAE Systems.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, American Legion Tom Schwinn Post 90 and Tri-City Model Airs Club.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Leas, Wellington; a son, Rick Leas, Tucson, Ariz.; a daughter, Sue Peninger, Wellington; five grandchildren, one stepgrandchild, three great-grandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
