John L. Taylor Dies at Age of 68

Obituary;

John L. Taylor, president of the Hamilton Bank, passed away last Sunday afternoon at the Elmhurst hospital in Angola, He had suffered a paralytic stroke on Monday evening, May 2, and was critically ill until the time of his death. Mr. Taylor was taken to the hospital Saturday afternoon following a cerebral hemorrhage.

The deceased was born in Franklin township, Dekalb County, on August 2, 1880. He was the son of Oscar and Elizabeth Taylor. He spent his entire life in and around Hamilton. Mr. Taylor was united in marriage with Blanche Jacobs on Nov. 22, 1904, and after residing on a farm south of town for a short time, they came to Hamilton.

Preceding his association with his father, O. H. Taylor, Sr, in the bank he was employed by the Wabash Railroad with the section.

Mr. Taylor became the president of the bank upon the death of his father in 1934. The bank has been in the Taylor family for Forty-four years having been purchased in 1905 from Learned & Son.

He was well known in northeastern Indiana, northwestern Ohio and Southern Michigan. Mr. Taylor was a member of the Odd Fellow Lodge.

Surviving are his wife, Blanch; two sons, Oscar and Willis, both of Hamilton; his mother, Mrs. O. H. Taylor Sr., Hamilton; four grandchildren, Norman and Kenny Taylor, both students at Ball State in Muncie, and Johnny and Marilyn Taylor and two brothers, Benna and Russell of Hamilton.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at the Hamilton Methodist church with the Swift Funeral Home in charge. The rev. Wm. D. Meddock, pastor of the church, officiated and interment was in the Hamilton Cemetery.


John married Blanche Ruth Jacobs on 22 Nov 1904. (Blanche Ruth Jacobs died on 24 Jan 1962 and was buried in Hamilton Cemetery, Hamilton, Steuben County, Indiana, USA.)
