Murlan G. Tharp Monday, October 27, 2003 Murlan G. Tharp, 72, of Nelson, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003, at his home.
Funeral services were held at 11:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall. William W. Harlow officiated. Pianist Julie Lewis played "Amazing Grace," "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Nearer My God to Thee." Pallbearers were Gale Cornine, Carl Wilson, Dave Dodson, Mike Lambert, Gary Hoskins and Ray H. Pettit. Graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Hawkeye Cemetery in Green City. Memorials are suggested to the Nelson Lions Club.
Born April 13, 1931, in Green City, he was the son of the late George Tharp and Mary Leas Tharp. He had lived in Nelson the last 17 years, moving from Sedalia. He was a graduate of Green City High School and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was an auctioneer, a Shriner and a 32nd Degree Mason of Sedalia Masonic Lodge. He was also a member of the Nelson Lions Club.
Survivors include one son, Craig Tharp and wife Becki of Fulton; three brothers, Wendell Tharp of Colorado Springs, Colo., Paul Tharp of Lee's Summit and Gary Tharp of the state of Massachusetts; two sisters, Martha Milton of Independence and Dorothy Glenn of Baldwin, Kan.; two granddaughters, Cara Tharp and Kelly Tharp; companion, Wanda Smith of the home; and several nieces and nephews.
