Luitgard (died 4 June 800) was the fourth and last wife of Charlemagne.[1]
Luitgard was the daughter of an Alamannian count. She married Charlemagne in 794 and died of unknown causes on 4 June 800. She and Charlemagne had no children.
According to 15th century chronicles from Oxford University, Luitgard had a sister, Redburga/Redburh, who met Ecgberht, later to be King of Wessex while he was exiled in West Francia by Beorhtric of Wessex and Offa of Mercia, the two later married.
Luitgard married Charlemagne Emperor of the West, son of Pepin III "the Short" Martel Duke of Burgundy, Neustria, & Provence, King of the Franks and Bertha/Bertrada "with the Big Feet" of Laon, in 794. (Charlemagne Emperor of the West was born between 2 Apr 742 and 743 in Aix-la-Chapelle, Städteregion Aachen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, died on 28 Jan 814 in Aix-la-Chapelle, Städteregion Aachen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany and was buried in Aix-la-Chapelle, Städteregion Aachen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.)
