Miriam Janes 1

  • Born: 1704, Northampton, Hampshire County, Massachusetts, USA
  • Marriage (1): Hezekiah Elmer
  • Died: 19 Sep 1750, Northfield, Franklin County, Massachusetts, USA at age 46

  General Notes:

Miriam's maiden name is Janes, this according to the will left by her father, Benjamin Janes. Miriam was the daughter of Benjamin and Hannah (Hinsdale) Janes.
This according to contributor # 47381791, Marilyn Andersen.

The History of Northfield, page 475 (image 507/675) does not give her birth or further information. She had three siblings killed, May 1704, in raids and her mother was long suffering from being "scapt" causing her father great financial burden for medical care provided to the mother so as to seek "charitie" relief from the towns of Branford, Guilford, Kilinsworth and Saybrook, CT.

From the information provided, it appears there were nine children born, eight of which may have made it to the age of maturity. The children are listed on Hezekiah's memorial.

NOTE: The surname Standish is often attributed to Miriam as her maiden name. If you have proof of her surname being Standish, please email me or click on the "Edit" send a correction link, and if proof is provided, I will gladly change.

DOB: Mass. birth index indicates Miriam Standish Janes was born 1707 at Northampton, Hampshire MA. There was an earlier sister Miriam born 1700, died 1704 at the Pascommac massacre. The Miriam Standish Janes is shown to be Miriam Elmer in her father's will and is listed in the book of Northfield. M. Andersen mandersen@cfu.net

(Hezekiah Elmer was born in Jun 1686 in Hartford, Hartford County, Connecticut, USA, died in Northfield, Franklin County, Massachusetts, USA and was buried in North Vernon Cemetery, North Vernon, Windham County, Vermont, USA.)
