Rebecca Fitch 1
- Born: Massachusetts, USA
- Marriage (1): Edward Elmer Jr.
- Died: 1710, Connecticut, USA
General Notes:
Very little is known of Rebecca, the wife of Edward Elmer (1654-1725).
On her husband's memorial page there is an excerpt stating her maiden name may be FITCH, and that they were married by (1) 1686 therefore it has been added here to facilitate connections. The excerpt goes on to say that Edward married (2) by 1696; and, noting the gap in births from Rebecca 1691-2 to Hannah in 1700 there may be a clue as to the proximity of her death. Viz:
IV. EDWARD, b. about 1654 (aged eleven on 5 May 1665 [ WMJ 503]); m. (1) by 1686 probably Rebecca Fitch [ TAG 68:98-100, 102]; m. (2) by 1696 Hannah _____ [ TAG 68:99, 102]. ASSOCIATIONS: In discussing the family of Joseph Fitch, one of whose daughters apparently married a son of Edward Elmer, Gale Ion Harris notes that Fitch and Elmer had been associated in Northampton before moving to the Podunk area of Hartford/Windsor [TAG 68:98-99]. Rebecca's burial place unknown, most likely Hartford and a picture of the Hartford Founder's Monument is posted here. ---- 2/23/2018: Update submission for date of death by Marilyn Kenyon, Psy.D 47005688: "New England Marriages Prior to 1700," page 249. This is data compiled by Torry. Edward Elmer (1654-1725) and Rebecca _____ (-1710); b 1684, Windsor, CT. This shows Edward Elmer marriage to Rebecca, by 1648. Rebecca died 1710. ---- If you have information as to correct location of grave, please click "Edit" and send a correction. I will gladly add provided evidence and source.
