CHILD NOTES: John Leas Jr. Birth(1): Will(1): His will is to be found in Will book "P" on page 326. It is dated 22 Dec 1823 and was probated 7 Oct 1825. Legatees: Stepson, David Lehner, Anna heim, wife of John Heim, Catharine Swartz dau of Adam Swartz, and wife Elizabeth. Death(1): Burial(1): General(1,6): John Leas contested a parcel of about 15 acres of land with Jacob Bruch in 1789. The Bruch land abutted the land of John Leas, Sr. which had been obtained by patent from the Proprietaries of Pennsylvania. The Surveyor General's report of August 3, 1789 mentions that John Leas's father had a warrant in 1751, but son John Leas took out another warrant based on the old warrant and had a survey of June 11, 1789 to claim the disputed 15 acres. The board found the old survey of 1751 did not encompass the disputed 15 acres and found in favor of Bruch.

The above note was provided by Kathryn Leas Stuart.

John Leas

v. I On Caveat.

Jacob Bruch. J

It appears on hearing the parties that the Land in contest is a small piece of about 15 Acres in Reading Township, York County, for which Bruch hath a Warrant & Survey. And that the Father of Leas had a Warrant in the year 1751 and a Survey of 107 Acres made thereon by Thomas Armor and that Leas in order to cover the piece in controversy took out a late Warrant for the said lot & Acres and would make use of the old Warrant to take the Land Surveyed for Bruch. The Board are therefore of Opinion that as both Warrants are for the same place, the said Leas ought to Patent on the first Warrant and as the Lines thereof cannot be extended so as to include the vacancy marked A in a Draught of John Forsyth now before the Board without going through the Lines of a Patented Tract the said Bruch's Survey ought to be accepted and a Patent granted.

John married Elizabeth, daughter of Unknown and Unknown. (Elizabeth was born on 15 Apr 1752, died on 15 Apr 1844 in York County, Pennsylvania, USA and was buried in Franklintown Cemetery, York Co., PA.)
