W. R. SHIPPY OF NEAR CORUNNA, DIES AT AGE 80

Resided On Same Farm For Nearly 60 Years; Funeral Is Saturday

William R. Shippy, aged 80 years, died this morning [Jan. 21, 1943] at 3:30 at his farm home in Richland township, DeKalb county, R. R. 3, Kendallville, from complications. He had engaged in farming at his home for nearly 60 years. Born March 23, 1863, the son of Robert and Susan Shippy, he spent the early years of his life in Jackson township, DeKalb county.

In 1900 he was united in marriage to Almeda Oster. Mrs. Shippy, preceding her husband in death, died June 4, 1926.

Surviving are one son, Clifton Shippy, Butler, and one daughter, Mrs. Rosa Poer, at home. A sister, Mrs. Matilda Zonker of Corunna, and two brothers, Isaac Shippy of Kendallville, and Marion Shippy of Marion [sic] Springs, Mich., also survive. There are two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon [Jan. 23, 1943] but as yet other arrangements have not been made. ²

William married Almeda E. Oster, daughter of Charles Oster and Barbara Arter. (Almeda E. Oster was born on 8 Nov 1873 in Clinton, Summit Co., OH, died on 4 Jun 1926 in Richland Township, Dekalb County, Indiana, USA and was buried in Corunna Cemetery, Corunna, Dekalb County, Indiana, USA.)
