Biography of John Lane 1603-1669 John Lane (Katherine Lane> Hannah Tuttle> Samuel Clark> Mary Clark> Thomas Foster [Jr.]> Sarah Foster> Avery Hall 1779-1858) was born in England about 1603 and immigrated to New England about 1641. The first record indicated that he was a citizen of Milford, New Haven County, Connecticut, in 1642 with his wife. The name of his first wife has not been located. His first wife died before April 1662 since he married Mary, the widow of Camp, that lived at Chestnut Hill in New Haven on April 4, 1662, in Milford. At a General Assembly held at Hartford on May 11, 1665, John Lane was admitted as a freeman. (Connecticut Colony Records). John made his will in the same year that he died in 1669. Mary died in 1680.
Will of John Lane of Milford, Ct., Sept. 10, 1669 "I John Lane of Milford in ye county of Newhaven, being in perfect memory tho : weake in body doo here make my last will & testament in manner & forme as followeth: First I bequeath my soule to God & my body to a christian buriall." Legacies to "my son in law Jobamah Gum," "my daughter in law Mary Campe." "My will is that my beloved wife Mary Lane shall haue all my housing & land, both wood land arrable & meadow ground during her life. My will is that Immediately after the death of my wife Mary Lane all the above fd houseing & land shall return unto my son Isaac Lane and unto his forever. Mu debts being paid unto my beloved wife Mary Lane & unto my son Isaac Lane all the rest of my goods & chattels ...whom I make my sole executor and executrix. And I doe appoint & desire my beloved brother, viz. Mr. Wm. East & my friend Samusel Ells to be the overseers to see this my will fulfilled. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seale, 10th Sept. 1669. Codcil: September 11th, '69. Bequest "unto mercy Baldwin my daughter in law."
