Don A. Farrington, age 74, of Ashley passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2016 at home with his family by his side.
Mr. Farrington was born January 30, 1942 in Corunna to Clark and Beatrice (Roop) Farrington. Don graduated from Ashley High School in 1960. He went on to graduate from Tri-State University in Angola in 1964.
He married LaDonna Gramling on August 28, 1966 at the Ashley United Methodist Church. She survives in Ashley.
Mr. Farrington worked for Borg Warner in Auburn and also worked for Ingersol Rand in Bryan, Ohio and Angola. Don was very active in the town of Ashley. He served as the Ashley Town Superintendent for 7 years, served on the Ashley town council for many years serving as president during his final term, served as the town Marshal of the Ashley Police Department for 9 years and also served on the Ashley Fire Department for 19 years. During those 19 years on the fire department Don served as an officer every year. On December 17, 2015 the town of Ashley dedicated a street, Farrington Drive, in his honor.
He was a member of the Hamilton Church of Christ, a 50 year member of the Ashley Masonic Lodge 614 F&AM receiving his 50 year Past Master Award and he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Steuben County Economic Development Corporation. He was also an original member of the DeKalb County Economic Development Board and served as the Smithfield Township west Republican Precinct Committeeman. Don was also an avid fisherman.
Survivors include: His wife, LaDonna Farrington of Ashley. Daughter, Lynette S. Farrington of Auburn. Daughter, Nicole L. Farrington of Auburn. Three Grandchildren, Clark Henderson, Hugh Henderson, Alex Dudash and Camden Straub. Sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Carl Diehm of Fort Wayne. Sister and brother-in-law, Wylene and Charles Signs of North Manchester. Many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 875 South Wayne Street in Waterloo. A masonic service will be held at 8:00 PM.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Feller and Clark Funeral Home in Waterloo.
