On January 22, 1915, W. B. Deuschar's store building was torn down and moved away to a new location on High Street. This building was built by Rice B. Lease and Peter Claycomb for Nathaniel Hollcroft and E. P. T. Hollcroft in 1860. On that very same spot Marcus Gaither built the first shack in Alton about 1830.


The election to determine whether Indiana should have free schools was an interesting one.
