Samuel C. Jones, age 73 of Elwood, died January 12, 2009 at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville after an extended illness.
He was born on October 16, 1935 in Elwood, Indiana.
He retired in 1987 from Continental Can Corporation in Elwood after 36 years of service as a Machinist. He was a 1953 graduate of Wendell L. Wilkie High School in Elwood. He was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Elwood. He was also a member and Past Worshipful Master of the Quincy Masonic Lodge in Elwood and Past Worthy Patron of the Elwood Order of Eastern Star. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and was a former Little League coach in Elwood.
Surivors include: Wife whom he married March 15, 1957 \endash Barbara (Orr) Jones of Elwood; 2 Sons \endash Scott Jones of Elwood and Brian and wife Michelle Jones of Elwood; 4 Sisters \endash Caroline E. Drake of Noblesville, Alice J. and husband Max McCorkle of St. Cloud, FL, Mary M. and husband Kenneth Jarrett of Elwood, and Patricia L. and husband Edward Johnson of Okeechobee, FL; Brother \endash David and wife Audrey Jones of Pinehurst, NC; 7 Grandchildren \endash Darren Jones, Drake Mengelt, Jacob Jones, Briana Jones, Ty Jones, Stephen Lamont and Ashlyn Jones.
He was preceded in death by his parents \endash Mervin L. and Sarah Alice (Lewis) Jones; Daughter \endash Jennifer S. Lamont; Daughter-in-Law \endash Brenda K. Jones; 2 Brothers-in-Law \endash Dr. Marion C. Drake and Gerald Anderson.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday, January 16, 2009 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Chris Dare of the First United Methodist Church in Elwood officiating. Entombment will take place in the Elwood City Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 PM Thursday, January 15, 2009 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home. The Quincy Masonic Lodge will conduct a memorial service at 6:30 PM Thursday, January 15, 2009 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church or American Cancer Society through the funeral home.
